Sinus Augmentation & Bone Grafting

When You Need It

When the patient does not have enough bone to support dental implants, a sinus augmentation and bone grafting is required.

The Procedure

A CT scan and X-Ray determine whether you need this minimally-invasive procedure that takes about an hour, and is generally, but not always performed using IV sedation/general anesthesia. To minimize bleeding and post-operative swelling, Dr. Kur makes a minimal incision and uses advanced technology, called a Piezoelectric unit, to elevate the sinus membrane. A bone graft substitute is then placed under the sinus membrane. The material used for the bone graft is approved by the FDA and is routinely combined with platelet-rich plasma, made with a small amount of the patient's own blood, that contains abundant growth factors, stem cells, and rich platelets. Non-dissolving sutures are placed, which Dr. Kur removes at the first post-operative visit at our Westchester County, NY offices. Following sinus augmentation, Dr. Kur will evaluate the patient periodically until ready for implants.

More To Know

In some cases, if the bone structure warrants, implants are placed simultaneously with the sinus augmentation.
